If you’re in need of some fresh music with a sound you don’t hear everyday Lana Del Rey may be your girl. At only 26, this artist plays off of 1950s and ’60s Americana pop culture, which is obvious from her dress and most importantly sound. Not only is she a singer and songwriter, she is an active model, currently with NEXT Model Management so her face is probably not unfamiliar to you. It was just announced that she will also be the new face of H&M’s Fall collection. Although her modeling may not bring controversy, some of her music certainly does.

Her music video for her song National Anthem actually begins with her recreation of Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday” to President Kennedy and the song/video continue from there reenacting the whole relationship between the two. She brought in A$AP Rocky to play President Kennedy in the music video. Although that sounds like the sort of copying Lady Gaga does with Madonna or Nicki Minaj does with Lil Kim, Lana Del Rey definitely is original and brings something new to the table. See that video here.

Her sound may not be for everyday; it is on the slower side with that 1960s feel but the lyrics in her songs are great. If “Video Games”, her first single, isn’t for you, I’d check out Paris for a happier song to relax to in the park. Her music video for her new single “Summertime Sadness” was released yesterday and the video is clearly very artistic and a great watch whether you like the song or it’s just not your thing.
